William Barnes, Ph.D
Dr. William Barnes, board chair, is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Portland's Pamplin School of Business. His areas of research interest include environmental economics and sustainability and comparative labor institutions. At the University of Portland, he teaches principles of micro and macroeconomics, environmental economics, corporate social responsibility, and principles of sustainability. In 2008 he was one of the main organizers for the Focus the Nation Chiles Center stadium event at the University of Portland, which brought together students and politicians from across the state of Oregon to discuss solutions to the climate crisis. The event attracted more than 3200 audience members, was broadcast live on Oregon Public Broadcasting radio and included participation from Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski, Congressman Earl Blumenauer and local politicians. Dr. Barnes earned his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Notre Dame.
