The Honorable Bill Bradbury
As Secretary of State, Bill Bradbury is Oregon’s second-highest-ranking constitutional officer. He is the auditor of public accounts, the chief elections officer, and the manager of the state's official legislative and executive records. Along with the Governor and Treasurer, he sits on the State Land Board, and he was appointed by Governor Kulongoski to chair the Oregon Sustainability Board. Bill has also been appointed to sit as a member of Oregon’s Global Warming Advisory Commission, a group tasked with making recommendations to the legislature on how Oregon will meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals and tackle the adaptation challenges created by the impacts of climate change. He was one of the first 50 participants in Vice President Al Gore’s Climate Change training sessions and has given over 150 Climate Project presentations.
Bill was also the Chief Sponsor of STEP (Salmon & Trout Enhancement Program), founded in 1981, which has provided 2.5 million volunteer hours to restore salmon health in Oregon. In 1993, when Oregon enacted watershed health legislation, Bill served as Senate President and saw to it that $10 million was appropriated to support watershed pilots in NE Oregon and SW Oregon. He also helped create major changes in western water law by helping to amend Oregon water law-- allowing for in-stream water rights to keep enough water in streams for fish and pollution dilution.
